Southwestern College is one of several community colleges in California serving as a feeder school for students who hope to transfer to two of San Diego’s major state universities – the University of California and San Diego State University.

The college, located south of the coastal city of San Diego near the U.S.-Mexico border, offers a wide selection of majors in the Associate of Arts degree, Associate of Science degree, Career Technical Education Certificate, and non-credit Certificates for short courses meant for personal and professional growth. It serves as the primary source of college education for close to half a million residents of the South San Diego County area.
All in all, the Southwestern College offers approximately 285 associate degrees and certification options for approximately 18,000

Some of the courses are Administration of Justice, Architecture Program, Associate Degree in Nursing, Athletics, Automotive
Technology, Certified Nursing Assistant, Computer Aided Design and Drafting, Emergency Medical Technical Program, Environment Technology, Fitness Specialist Certification, International Studies, Landscape and Nursery Technology, Small Business Development and Vocational Nursing.
Since 1961, more than half a million students have attended the college accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
The Southwestern College is a component of the California community college system, composed of 109 two-year public institutions. The colleges are organized into 72 districts serving more than 2.9 million students, reputedly the largest system of higher education in the world.
To complement its academic programs, Southwestern College offers a comprehensive career assistance program through its Career Center. The Center offers individual career counseling, workshops, walk-in assistance, and online access to career research software.
